Inspiration
This painting was inspired by Matthew 24:37–39:
“For just like the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. For in those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark. And they knew nothing until the flood came and took them all away. It will be the same at the coming of the Son of Man.”
In this work, Noah is shown entering the ark with his family as the floods rise. People nearby mock him, “making merry” and ignoring the warning. In the foreground, modern-day figures indulge in food and drink, unaware of what is to come. A candle flickers on the table, symbolizing time running out as floodwaters threaten to extinguish its flame.
Message
This piece serves as both a reminder and a call to action. Today, many pursue comfort, indulgence, and luxury as though God does not exist. But Jesus warns us: time is short. The candle’s dying flame urges us to draw near to Christ now — to know Him, to follow Him, and to share the Gospel before it is too late.
